This is the most elaborate form of the Tibetan teapot. It would have been used only on special occasions or to honour important guests. Its style is typical of the outlying districts of Ladakh and Bhutan. Its cover (Museum no.567A-1905) and travelling case (Museum no. 567B-1905) are also in the V&A.

Copper and silver teapot of round form with a handle in the shape of a dragon, Ladakh, 19th century
Physical description
A copper and silver teapot of round form with a handle in the shape of a dragon. The circular foot is decorated with openwork bands of lotus scrolls within which are lozenge shaped cartouches containing kinnaras, dragons, peacocks and deer. Two other catouches of applied and pierced silver contain the "Wish Granting Jewel" emblem.

Object history
Obtained during the 1904 British expedoition to Lhasa at the Palkor Chode monastery in Gyantse.
