The objects in the photograph formed part of the collection of Emile Peyre (1824-1904), a notable Parisian collector of French Medieval and Renaissance artefacts. The figures of the apostle and St Francis of Assisi are in the collection of the National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh (formerly the Museum of Science and Art), and the figure of the friar was bought from Peyre by the V&A (formerly the South Kensington Museum) in 1895.
