A photograph depicting two carved oak figures and a six-side stand all made in the 16th century. One of the figures represents a Dominican friar and the other Louis XII of France who is wearing the collar of the order of St. Michael and a robe ornament with fleur-de-lys. As well as the two figures there is also a six-sided stand for the figure of the friar, carved with gothic tracery, with six feet of which four are carved with demi-figures of lions.

Object history | The objects in this photograph formed part of the collection of Emile Peyre (1824-1904), a notable Parisian collector of French Medieval and Renaissance artefacts. In 1895 the South Kensington Museum (renamed the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1900), bought over 300 pieces of furniture and woodwork (including these objects) from him. |
