A photograph depicting two groups of carved figures and a single carved figure. One of the groups of figures, made from walnut wood that has been carved and painted, consists of St. Anne holding in her right hand the Virgin Mary with the infant Jesus and in her left hand an open book. The other group, also carved from walnut wood that has been painted and gilded, includes the Virgin Mary offering a bunch of grapes in her right hand to the infant Jesus in her left, who is holding a bird. The single figure, carved from walnut wood and painted and gilded, represents St. John the Evangelist holding an open book in his hands.

Object history
The objects in this photograph formed part of the collection of Emile Peyre (1824-1904), a notable Parisian collector of French Medieval and Renaissance artefacts. In 1895 the South Kensington Museum (renamed the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1900), bought over 300 pieces of furniture and woodwork (including these objects) from him.
