Watch fragment (Uhrfragment)

Ring
2001 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Bernhard Schobinger’s ring is an exquisitely crafted evocation of dereliction. While some jewellers re-cycle components to create a new perfection, he transforms them to a further realm of neglect or damage. Thus the redundant watch movement and braided wire of the ring are further distressed. However as with two negatives, the result becomes positive and a new and more surprising beauty is achieved.

This ring is one of forty-five pieces of jewellery given to the V&A from the collection of the late Louise Klapisch.
