Set design by Sophie Fedorovitch for the ballet Symphonic Variations, created for the Sadler's Wells Ballet at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, 1946.
Symphonic Variations was the first ballet created by Frederick Ashton for the Royal Opera House stage after the Sadler's Wells Ballet became resident there. The ballet went through a period of gestation during which Ashton stripped away his narrative and Sophie Fedorovitch stripped down and stylised her set design which evoked the open landscape of Norfolk.
