Horst P. Horst (1906–99)
Horst was close friends with the fashion designer Coco Chanel in Paris in the 1930s. This portrait of her, reclining on a Louis XVI-style chaise against decorative carvings, remained her favourite picture for many years. When Horst refused to charge her for the prints he made, she showed her appreciation by giving him several pieces of furniture from her own collection.

Physical description

Photograph of Coco Chanel reclining on a chaise lounge and gazing away from the photographer. She wears a black bow in her hair, several necklaces, and appears to be holding a cigarette.
