| Object history | A garment from the fall winter collection of Rabih Kayrouz, Barbès-Batroun, 2014. The collection is a story of two cities, Barbès and Batroun coming together in a mixture of prints and a rich blend of culture. Barbès is a Métro stop servicing a culturally diverse, predominantly North African neighborhood in the northeast corner of Paris; Batroun, one of the oldest cities in the world, is now a popular vacation destination in Lebanon and where the designer, Rabih Kayrouz spent summer holidays growing up. Lebanese by origin and partly Paris- based, Kayrouz celebrated his hybrid culture in this collection. For this object, Kayrouz reconstructed the traditional foutas (hammam towels) and experimented with draping, an important part of the Arab culture. |
