Place of origin |
In this drawing by Koryûsai, a parakeet perching watchfully on a budding branch about to burst into flower signals the start of the cherry blossom season.
This sheet is a copyist's drawing and would have been copied from Koryûsai's original sketches. The copyist's drawing is usually destroyed when the initial printing block is carved. Here, a piece of paper pasted in the lower centre of the design has allowed the artist to make a correction to the drawing. A second drawing incorporating this amendment may then have been made.
