This tile was collected before 1868 in Sind, in present-day Pakistan, as an example of "Tatta work". Tatta being a major centre of ceramic production and its potters were recruited by the Bombay School of Art in the late 19th century to instruct the students.

Object history
The tile was lent to the museum by Lady Frere. Another in the group has a label stating that it was lent on July 1, 1868.
