The Draughtsman and his Model

Orpen was an Irish artist who became fashionable portrait painter in London. This watercolour belonged to Alfred Rich, himself a painter. Like Orpen, he was a member of the New English Art Club. It was founded in 1866 by British painters inspired by progressive French artists such as Degas and Monet.
