The wooden sheath for a curved Indian sword was probably made in the early 19th century. It would originally have been covered with velvet, but the loss of the covering allows the structure of this typical Mughal-style scabbard to be revealed. Its sword, IS.227:1-2006, is finely etched with animals, real or mythical, fighting in pairs.
