Engraved portrait of the actress Mrs. Hartley (1751-1824) as Mary Queen of Scots in Act 2, Scene 5 of The Albion Queen, August, 1777. It is a full length image of the actress in a dress reminiscent of fashionable dress in the last quarter of the eighteenth century, but with clear references to Elizabethan dress in the deeply pointed waist and full sleeves.
