Complete Tunisian man's costume.

Sash Tunisia 1880–90 This man’s sash would have been worn wrapped several times around the middle of the body with the folds functioning as small pockets. It is part of a complete outfit that the museum holds. The donor reported that the costume belonged to his grandfather Gabriel von-Rosenberg. Von-Rosenberg was given the costume in the 1870s when he presented a bear to the Bey (ruler) of Tunis on behalf of the Russian Tsar. Silk, woven Given by J. Sassoon Museum no. Object history
This costume is said to have been presented Gabriel Jacques von Rosenberg to the donor's grandfather by the Bey of Tunis in 1890. The costume was presented as a thankyou to Rosenberg who delivered a bear to the Bey on behalf of the Tsar.
