Portrait orientated drawing in watercolour over pencil of a woman washing items in a trough, farm buildings and a chalet-like house in mid ground. Woman is wearing a blue dress with a white apron over it and a white bonnet with a possible red neckerchief. She is bent over, turned away from the viewer. The trough is long and made of stone, water flows from a pipe into it. A black cart is positioned in the mid left foreground. Buildings in background are predominately brown. Large imposing chalet on the right. Small stone cut through facade in front. Sky is dark blue with white clouds.

Object history
Drawn probably by Beatrix Potter in July 1882. Acquired by the V&A from Leslie Linder (1904-1973) in 1973 as part of the Linder Bequest, a collection of ca. 2150 watercolours, drawings, literary manuscripts, correspondence, books, photographs, and other memorabilia associated with Beatrix Potter and her family.
