Shop Door Curtain

1870-1970 (Made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Door curtain (noren) of indigo blue cotton made from three sewn-together loom widths, which are left partly unsewn to allow a passage through the doorway.
The cotton is turned over at the top and the bottom to make a narrow hem.
In the centre, reserved in white, is a crest (mon) depicting a tachibana (flower) in an arch. At the bottom left are two characters which read 'Ikoma', a surname. The design seems to be executed in tube-work resist (tsutsugaki) and/or stencil resist.
