Photography as art Cairo was one of the most photographed cities in the world in the 19th Century. The photographs shown here were originally collected by the museum to inspire British artists, designers, scholars and architects, but they are now seen as artworks in their own right. Photographers such as Facchinelli, Sébah, Robertson and Beato, Good and many others made use of Cairo’s distinctive architecture to make arresting images of the widely-admired city. 3.
