Pen and ink drawing by E.P. Kinsella, showing two men, each clasping the hand of a female figure representing Fortune. The left hand figure is the theatre impresario Walter Melville. Signed E.P.K., and dated 1925.

Walter Melville (1875-1937) ran the Lyceum Theatre in partnership with his brother Frederick between 1910-1938. They became particularly known for the spectacular pantomimes which they produced each year.

Physical description

Pen and ink drawing showing two men, each clasping the hand of a female figure who stands on a winged wheel and wears a blindfold labelled 'Fortune'. Both men are glancing up towards Fortune, who soars above them. To either side of her head is the date 1925 in watercolour.

A handwritten caption at the base of the sketch reads 'That Fortune smile upon you, and guide you on your way - / Is the heartiest of Wishes from your old friend E.P.K. POET AND PAINTER'. Dated 1925.
