Shelly Goldsmith studied woven textiles at Farnham and the Royal College of Art. She won the Jerwood Applied Arts Textile Prize in 2002. Goldsmith uses textiles to explore different ideas, using tapestry as the predominant medium. She incorporates various techniques and materials in her work as reference to historical and cultural subjects. The integration of discharge printing in Curler is a good example of her expressive exploration of the field of textiles and of her contribution to the contemporary tapestry movement.
