Science fiction has long explored the idea of computers and machines becoming more intelligent than people. This plays on the fear of them being capable of taking over the world. Transformers can change from everyday machines, such as cars and lorries, into powerful fighting robots. Optimus Prime is the leader of the Autobots, one of two alien robotic factions, who fight against the Decepticons in a struggle for dominance and peace. Originally a Japanese concept, Transformers were first launched as a toy by the American company Hasbro in 1984. These were quickly followed by a comic book, a cartoon and several film versions.(2013)
