This is a plaster cast of one of the marble reliefs Amadeo carved for the Certosa (Charterhouse) in Pavia, in Lombardy. Beneath the scene of the Adoration of the Magi is a Lamentation for the dead Christ with the Virgin, St John the Evangelist, saints and angels. The pilasters are adorned with prophets' heads and decorative foliate reliefs. The plaster cast was made by an Italian firm based in Milan.

In the border surrounding the main field are five half-length prophets. In the predella, the Dead Christ is mourned by the Virgin and St John the Evangelist, with six saints and four angels. |
