Interhotel

Print
2013 (printed)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This print by Alexander Massouras was the winner of the V&A Purchase Prize at the ING/Discerning Eye exhibition, 2013. This delicate etching is characteristic of his work in which mysterious dislocated scenarios are described with great economy. There are allusions to narrative (especially folk tales and poetry) and to architecture and classical order. He has said “My work is informed by an abiding interest in rational principles such as geometry, logic or perspective. I paint, draw and etch work which presents a sense of order but in a way which is undermined, with small interruptions of chaos, narrative failure or decay.”
