This vase was bought from Siegfried Bing's shop L'Art Nouveau in Paris, the specialist retailer in the most exclusive and sought after of the new arts. Alf Wallander was a designer in many fields - ceramics, glass, textiles, metalwork and furniture and was appointed artistic director at Rörstrand in 1895. He was responsible for a wide range of modelled shapes for Rörstrand in both porcelain and stoneware, useful and decorative wares. The factory's display of his work in the Paris 1900 Exhibition was awarded a Grand Prix. |
