A wide doorway of stained pine centring on a moulded arch supported on rusticated pillars, which are faced with pilasters carved with drops of fruit, suspended from a ribbon bow; on the keystone of the arch is carved a basket of fruit, and winged putti with fruit and fishes are carved in the two spandrels. The arch is flanked by two Corinthian columns which support an open segmental pediment. Within the pediment are carved further sprays and bunches of fruit and flowers, contained by foliate S-scroll brackets.

Physical description
A wide doorway of stained pine centring on a moulded arch supported on rusticated pillars, which are faced with pilasters carved with drops of fruit, suspended from a ribbon bow; on the keystone of the arch is carved a basket of fruit, and winged putti with fruit and fishes are carved in the two spandrels. Overall height and width taken from green books (height '18 ft 7 in., i.e. 223 in.; width '15 ft 6 in.', i.e. 186 in.). Width at pediment measured from below, by eye (19 October 2006), seemed slightly greater -- c. 480 cm. The height of the spandrels includes elements hidden from view when the whole is erected.
