Black paper silhouette by shadow-puppeteer Lotte Reiniger of a ballerina in short tutu in the ballet Aurora’s Wedding (Le Mariage d’Aurore) mounted on Japanese tissue set in a greetings card-style blue mount. The work is signed in pencil on the tissue LR and the base of the mount are the words AURORA’S WEDDING DE BASIL BALLET in black ink.

Aurora’s Wedding (Le Mariage d’Aurore) was a one-act ballet drawn from the Prologue (Christening) and Act III (Wedding divertissement) from The Sleeping Princess. The ballet was revived for de Basil’s Ballets Russes on 12 November 1934.

Lotte Reiniger (1899-1981) created silhouettes of De Basil’s Ballets Russes for illustrations in periodicals and as souvenirs sold through the book dealer Ifan Kyrle Fletcher.
