The gnome is part of a set that accompanies a Father Christmas to make a festive display. This was designed and made by Margaret Hickson, a member of the British Doll Artists Association. Kenneth Hickson and artist and illustrator Betty Lorrimar worked on parts of the figures and accessories. The set was given to the museum as a gift in the early 1990s and has proved to be a very popular Christmas display. Although, in the main, doll artists do not make toys as such, these characters are very much a part of childhood for a lot of people.
