Place of origin

Although he is best known as a sculptor, Darrell Viner (1947-2001) was also one of Britain’s most prolific computer artists in the mid-1970s. Born in Coventry, Viner studied at Hornsey College of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art, graduating with an MA in sculpture in 1976. As a student in the Slade's Experimental Department, he had extensive access to the University of London’s computer facilities and produced many plotter drawings. Viner described his early experiments with the computer and pen plotter as a 'journey in mark making'.
