These shoes were worn by Lady Mary Charteris, a model and DJ, for her wedding to Robbie Furze, a musician and the frontman of electronic rock duo the Big Pink, on 1st September 2012. The wedding was held at Charteris's family home, Stanway House, Gloucestershire. Their wedding was covered widely by both print and online media, as a result of both the famous guests in attendance and the bride's unconventional dress.

The shoes were designed by Nicholas Kirkwood, an established London shoe designer who trained at Central Saint Martins and Cordwainers' College and founded his own label in 2005. He won the Accessory Designer Award at the British Fashion Awards in 2010, 2012 and 2013.
