This dress was worn by Lady Mary Charteris, a model and DJ, at her wedding to Robbie Furze, a musician and the frontman of the Big Pink, on 1st September 2012. The wedding was held at Charteris's family home, Stanway House, Gloucestershire. Their wedding was covered widely by print and online media, due to both the famous guests in attendance and the bride's unconventional dress.
Lady Mary Charteris commissioned British designer Pam Hogg, a close friend, to create her wedding dress after attending the designer's Spring/Summer 2012 fashion show in Paris, entitled 'Notre Dames'. The dress, which is based on a body suit shown in the fashion show, is revealing and skin tight.
The designer was originally hesitant about designing a wedding dress, but accepted the commission. The design evolved from a series of conversations and fittings between the two women. As Hogg did not have a mannequin small enough for Mary - who is 5 foot 2 inches tall - the dress, the bodice of which is made up of a series of panels, had to be constructed purely as a result of these fittings. Hogg had estimated the dress would take six weeks to make, but in fact it took closer to six months. The resulting dress fits smoothly to the body down to the pelvis, where it breaks into a skirt made of layered and heavy tulle.
