Artist and designer Ralph Adron (born 1937) studied theatre design, first at Croydon College of Art with designer Frederick Crooke and then at the Slade School of Fine Art with Peter Snow and Nicholas Georgiadis. His designs for Volpone were created for a project at the Slade.

Physical description

Costume design for Corbaccio. Full length elderly androgynous figure leaning on two walking sticks, and wearing a black Elizabethan style full length robe with 'farthingale' skirt, the puff sleeves, neck and front decorated with 'pearls'; a ruff, a plumed hat with 'pearl' decoration and a pendant with a gold foil star. Signed and dated. On the reverse is a second design for the character, a more masculine figure with a long grey beard, dressed in a black calf length robe.
