Pair of enamelled gold earrings with pearl borders. Each earring consists of a hollow octagonal centre with a flat ring below and a wedge-shaped projection at the top. It is enamelled on both sides with a geometric pattern in green, red and white, and there are 6 pearls, 3 on each side, attached to its edge by vertical wires. There are two stubs attached to the top of the wedge, which hold a plain ring wire. There is a seventh pearl between the two stubs.

Pair of enamelled gold earrings, set with pearls, Spain, 1800-1850.
Physical description
Pair of enamelled gold earrings with pearl borders. Each earring consists of a hollow octagonal centre with a flat ring below and a wedge-shaped projection at the top. It is enamelled on both sides with a geometric pattern in green, red and white, and there are 6 pearls, 3 on each side, attached to its edge by vertical wires. There are two stubs attached to the top of the wedge, which hold a plain ring wire. There is a seventh pearl between the two stubs.
Marks and inscriptions
  • Eagle’s head facing right, overstruck with 'ET' in a rectangular frame. (Marked twice on the wire)
    Translation
    The eagle's head is the restricted warranty mark for gold, Paris, 1838 onwards. The counter marks on the back confirm this. 'ET' is usually used for an imported piece of unknown standard.
  • 'B' in a heart. (On ring at base of earring.)
  • Snail in profile in rectangular frame. (On ring at base of earring.)
