Whistler was an American artist who lived largely in France and England. He found inspiration for many of his paintings and prints along the banks of the river Thames, often choosing to depict the river landscape at night or seen through mist or fog. This view of the Thames at Battersea shows the distinctive skyline silhouetted against the clear sky at dusk.
