Drawing in Indian ink of a school room. View to a corner of the room. On the right hand side is a fireplace with high metal fender and tongs. Flat-iron on mantel shelf, urn on stool beyond. Rug in front of fireplace with a live terrapin on it, facing the fender. Back wall has a Wellington chest with 16 drawers and a jug on top, a high table is beside this in the right corner with a large book on top, and on top of this are two bird cages of differing sizes and constructions, containing one bird each.

Object history | Given by Leslie Linder (1904-1973) to the National Book League (now the Book Trust) in 1970 as part of a representative selection of Beatrix Potter's work. This selection, comprising 279 drawings and 38 early editions and now known as the Linder Collection, was formerly on long-term loan to the Victoria and Albert Museum between 1989 and 2019 form the charitable trust, The Linder Trust. |
