Sibyl Dunlop (1889-1968) was a jewellery and silver designer with a workshop and showroom on Kensington Church Street, London. This ring from about 1930 illustrates her flair for combining stones of vivid colours, and it unites the Arts and Crafts Movement’s love of unfaceted stones with the geometric lines of Art Deco.

Physical description | Multi-coloured gem-set ring, the bezel in the shape of a vertically-extended lozenge which consists of a central amethyst framed by narrow strips of green-stained chalcedony, invisibly set square rubies, and yellow-stained chalcedony. Above and below are arranged triangles of chalcedony and amethyst with a square sapphire, at the sides are triangles of amethyst and sapphire. The band and settings are of silver. |
