Pink polka dot dress and slip for a girl, 1950s

Pink polka dot dress and slip for a girl. Half sleeved dress in a white fabric with raised pink polka dots. The dress has frilly detailing in the same fabric at the yoke, front and back and around the edge of the skirt. The dress is gathered at the waist creating a full skirt. The dress if fastened with four cream coloured pearlescent buttons at the front. Belt loops are found at either side of the waist but no belt is present.

The under dress made from a pale pink synthetic fabric with a gathered waist. Like the over dress, it is fastened with four ivory pearlescent buttons at the front. The buttons for the under dress are of a different design.

This dress is part of larger gift given to the Museum by Daphne Pearce who wore the clothes as a young girl growing up in the Northern suburbs of London. The clothes are all in pristine condition and were worn from the 1950s to 1960s and show a range from baby wear to pre-teen years, approximately 12. This collection typifies the clothing of the period and clothing labels and styles of the middle classes.
