Pink straw bucket style handbag for a girl with blue flower decoration, made in Italy, 1950s
Physical description
Magenta coloured straw bucket style handbag for a girl. Magenta dyed straw is sewn in the round to create a circular bucket bag. The bag is closed with a straw flap fastened with pink elastic around a red plastic bead. The flap is decorated with a felt blue flower with white centre. The handle is attached to the centre of the flap. A label 'MADE IN ITALY' is sewn on the underside of the flap at the front.

Object history
This handbag is part of larger gift given to the Museum by Daphne Pearce who wore the clothes as a young girl growing up in the Northern suburbs of London. The clothes are all in pristine condition and were worn from the 1950s to 1960s and show a range from baby wear to pre-teen years, approximately 12. This collection typifies the clothing of the period and clothing labels and styles of the middle classes.
