Baby Suit

The three piece baby suit is made in a printed cotton of pink and white flowers with green leaves on a blue background. The jacket is in a bolero shape. There is a Peter Pan collar trimmed with cotton lace at the edges. There is a pocket on either side of the jacket which are also trimmed with cotton lace. The jacket is open with no fastenings. There is a manufacturer's label in the collar which is white with the printed text 'Lindsay Maid'.

The apron has a frill all the way around the sides and hem. It is fastened with a tie of the same printed blue cotton.

The bodice section of the dungarees is in a heart shape. This is trimmed in white cotton lace. The dungarees are fastened with two crisscrossing straps which are attached at the top of the bodice with two white pearlised buttons legs of the dungarees are elasticised at the bottom with some frayed elastic which were possibly for the feet.

This baby suit is part of larger gift given to the Museum by Daphne Pearce who wore the clothes as a young girl growing up in the Northern suburbs of London. The clothes are all in pristine condition and were worn from the 1950s to 1960s and show a range from baby wear to pre-teen years, approximately 12. This collection typifies the clothing of the period and clothing labels and styles of the middle classes.
