Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Girls red velvet dress with white Peter Pan collar. There 4 white pearlised plastic decorating the bodice on a panel of the same red velvet. The dress has short puff sleeves. There are two pockets on the skirt which have been smocked with yellow thread. The dress is fastened at the back with four white buttons and a hook and eye fastening. There are two long ties of the same material at the back for tying in a bow. The dress looks to have been taken up and there is a hand sewn hem which is 80mm deep. There is a white label in the collar with red writing which reads 'Greenways', attached to this is a smaller label giving the size as 26, also in red. A label in the seam of the skirt records the machinist's initials as 'IB'. There is the stub of another label which has been cut out.

This dress is part of larger gift given to the Museum by Daphne Pearce who wore the clothes as a young girl growing up in the Northern suburbs of London. The clothes are all in pristine condition and were worn from the 1950s to 1960s and show a range from baby wear to pre-teen years, approximately 12. This collection typifies the clothing of the period and clothing labels and styles of the middle classes.
