Physical description

Drawing in watercolour over pencil of two specimens of fungi. Left is shown two pink fungi, one with its tall cap intact and a ring around its stem, roots also visible. Right is shown two flater fungi with yellow heads and underside revealed on one on far right. Roots and ground also visible below. A cut-through section of a specimen is also shown in a fainter illustration to the right.

Object history note

Drawn by Beatrix Potter at Lingholm, Keswick in September 1897. Given by Leslie Linder (1904-1973) to the National Book League (now the Book Trust) in 1970 as part of a representative selection of Beatrix Potter's work. This selection, comprising 279 drawings and 38 early editions and now known as the Linder Collection, was acquired on long-term loan by the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1989 and remains the property of a charitable trust, The Linder Trust.
