Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This jewel represents a declaration of love. Set against a panel of woven hair two figures of Cupid offer a flaming heart each to the other across a monogram or cipher, with the words 'Mine for yours' inscribed below. These symbolic representations of love were widely used in the years around 1700. They were produced as standard components for jewellery in thin gold sheet which was stamped out and then enamelled. The gold wire monogram made the piece personal, although the identity of the lovers is now lost.
