This is a hand stitched runner for a table, made by a young girl during the 1920s in England. There are several proverbs and nursery rhymes stitched into the cotton. These include Humpty Dumpty, Jack and Jill, Bo Peep, Hey Diddle Diddle, Peeping Tom and 'The Early Bird Catches the Worm'.

Physical description
White cotton table runner with hand stitched nursery scenes, and images of proverbs. These include Humpty Dumpty, Jack and Jill, Bo Peep, Hey Diddle Diddle, Peeping Tom and 'The Early Bird Catches the Worm'. The stitching is pale and dark blue, and there is a line of holes stitched into the fabric underneath the stitched images. There are significant folds towards the edge of the runner that mean the edges are straight.
