Place of origin |
'Ride ahead with the Household Cavalry', army recruitment poster, depicting two members of the Household Cavalry on horseback. The figures are depicted in a frontal pose, and are highly stylised, their faces in black shadow, their white-gloved hands silhouetted, and their uniforms simplified. Their helmets have more detail, although the plumes are 'blurs' of colour, suggesting speed and movement. Their horses are black, and again are stylised, and each of the soldiers holds a pennant. The composition slants towards the right, and the edges of the figures fade into shadow. Below the image, in the lower third of the poster is the message, 'Ride ahead with the Household Cavalry, ask to join today'. The artist's name is printed in the upper right corner, and beneath this the poster is signed by the artist to Leslie Schreyer; this dedication is dated 1982.
