This eri (collar), along with various other accoutrements belonging to a kimono set, was gifted to a member of the Royal Family by the Daughter of the Emperor of Japan in 1960. The eri is an intrinsic part of a kimono set and is used for decorative purposes to give the illusion that an extra kimono layer underneath. Decorated with bright red chrysanthemums, a traditional motif strongly associated to the Imperial Family, this bold design reflects the chrysanthemum patternation illustrated on the front of the kimono.
