An obi (waist-sash) forms an important part of the kimono ensemble as it secures the garment. They are tied, usually at the back, in a variety of styles. This obi was a presented to a member of the British royal family by a princess of the Japanese imperial family in the early 1960s. For ease and efficiency, the obi knot is pre-tied and hooks on to the sash.
