Bibliographic reference | Scotch is an adjective meaning "of Scotland". The modern usage in Scotland is "Scottish" or "Scots", where the word "Scotch" is only applied to specific products, usually food or drink. To describe a person as "Scotch" has been widely considered pejorative since the early 19th century, as it reflects old Anglo-Scottish antagonisms. However, it is still in common use in North America, and is used here in its historical context. |
