Circular lidded box. Softwood covered with dark brown calf leather, which is overlaid with silver foil, and then stamped, painted and lacquered. The decoration is in the Persian style. On the cover is a central compartment with a twelve—lobed outline, containing stamped floral scrollwork enriched with gilding and picked out with colour; radiating from this are six small shaped compartments with floral ornament similarly treated, and six half-ellipses with floral scrolls. The remaining surface is painted crimson and sown with gold dots and round the whole is a tooled wavy border. There is a similar border round the edge of the cover and another at the bottom of the box, the space between containing a row of six shaped compartments alternating with six small ellipses, similarly treated to the panels on the cover. The ground is crimson with gold dots.
The base of the box is painted(?) black.
The interior of the box is painted(?) red, and lined with paper; lid is lined with crimson velvet applied in strips (alternating with off-white paper).
