Mourning Ring
late 17th century (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
Enamelled gold mourning ring, set with rose-cut diamonds, some in silver collets. The bezel enamelled in white with a skull and cross bones. The shoulders set with a diamond. The hoop pierced with floral designs.
The skull and crossbones element appears to have been soft soldered into position (at a slight angle) onto the back of an earlier setting. There is associated pitting to the surfaces of the silver settings for the diamonds on each shoulder. Eyes: One diamond is set in silver and the other gold.
