Full length, hand coloured Fashion Plate. Handwritten annotation at the base of the central image identifies the Fashion Plate as a 'Walking Dress, May 1. 1813.'
This fashion plate is associated with the actress Ellen Terry (1847-1928) and has been annotated by the actress. A comment in the top left hand corner declares "Wore this for Peppy= Success!". As correspondence to and from the actress reveal, Terry took a keen interest in the design of her stage costumes, and it appears that this early nineteenth century fashion plate provided inspiration for one of her many roles.
