Place of origin

GI Joe was first launched in 1964 during the Vietnam War. It was originally made in four versions representing the real American heroes of the US Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps.

By the late 1960s, the war in Vietnam had caused unprecedented casualties on both sides. As the public began to protest about the war and America's involvement in it, GI Joe lost his broad public appeal.

This is a complete boxed version of 'G. I. Joe Action Marine', including instruction booklet, stickers and a recruitment leaflet, asking children to 'Join the GI Joe club!'.
