Jason Brooks (1969 - ) grew up in Brighton and studied Graphic Design at St Martin’s College. After he won the Vogue Sotheby's Cecil Beaton Award for Fashion Illustration, he became a regular contributor to British Vogue magazine, and also created a number of colourfully illustrated travel journals whilst still at St Martin’s. His illustrations draw heavily upon his travel experiences. He took a MA in Illustration at the Royal College of Art, after which the Independent commissioned him to attend the Paris couture shows and make drawings of the shows. His visual reports from Fashion Weeks have continued to be published in New York’s Visionaire and Elle magazine. His artwork is also associated with several record labels, especially that of Hed Kandi who have sold millions of albums featuring Brooks’ illustrations.
His work, which advertisers have recognised is perfect for promoting a wide variety of luxury consumer goods, is distinctive in that Brooks was one of the first artists in his field to embrace the potential of computer technology. Working up from initial sketches his images use digital vectoring to enable them to be reduced and resized smoothly to any size without distortion or loss of quality, which also gives the images a highly polished, flawless appearance.
